A man’s taste versus a woman’s.

This weekend I spent some time on Polyvore putting together outfits just for fun. While doing this, I thought to myself, “If this is how I would style a woman, how would a man?”. So, I put that question to the test. I asked a family member to pick out an outfit on Polyvore. He did, and this is what he came up with…………

Cute, right? No! Definitely not! Now, I’m not saying that this is how every man’s taste is, but there are men who think that this is very fashion forward.
I then asked another member of my family, a woman this time, to create an outfit. Here’s what she came up with……….

Better, right? A girl knows what she’s talking about. She knows how to dress her body and  hide her flaws, but a guy has no clue about those things. Now, again, not every guy has a terrible fashion sense, I’m just speaking in general. Although, I think I should be honest. That “man’s” opinion was really my three-year old cousin, Brandon. That still counts though, right?

Photo to Outfit

Have you ever flipped through a magazine or looked at a piece of art and thought, “Wow, what great colors!”? Colors are the meaning of spring! Lauren Willhite, author of the blog Collective Colors, shows us how to take the colors out of a picture and put them in an outfit. Well, she helps guide us through putting those colors in an outfit. Willhite’s blog is super creative and fun to look through. She finds pictures, whether they’re art or actual clothes pictures, and pulls out the key colors. To see the colors separated from the picture and on their own, helps a designer, or even a fellow fashionista, put together any outfit!

Bangs or No Bangs?

So I feel very self conscious about posting pictures of myself here for you all to see, but I’m in desperate need of some help.

Back in September my poor hair went through a traumatic change. With my hair sitting all pretty at my lower back, I decided to cut it to my shoulders, and I’ve regretted it ever since! Along with my short hair, I decided to get all-the-way-across bangs, too. Well, now my bangs are grown out, and my hair is getting longer, thankfully.

I don’t plan on touching the length of it other than trimming it. However, I’m super confused on whether or not I should get the bangs back!

Please let me know what you all think! Thank you!Bangs! (Please, ignore that annoying piece of hair in front of my face.)

                      No bangs!

Sparkle, Sparkle, Sparkle

Chanel’s Fall 2011 RTW collection was dark and grungy and mostly made up of menswear characteristics. The runway and backdrops themselves were already mysterious appearing and gothic, especially with the help of the foggy atmosphere. The show was lightened up with the help of Peter Philips makeup by adding sparkly, metallic eye shadow to the models’ eyes.

Valentino Fall 2011

  • Lace
  • Soft, muted colors
  • Dark, edgy colors

Those three things are what I LOVE! The fact that Valentino combined all three of those into their Fall 2011 line is just amazing. There were pieces that an everday girl can wear, well, as long as she had the wallet of the rich and famous. Either way, the items in this collection were adorable, and I want it all!

Would you rather….?

Picture this, you’re an all-time, amazing recording artist. You’ve been nominated for 5 Grammy’s. Your stylist just got into a horrid car accident and your beautiful Marchesa dress is sitting in the middle of the road being ran over by every taxi in NYC. Your manager found some leftover outfits at the nearby Bloomingdale’s, and here are your options. You have no choice but to wear one of these two garments. Would you rather wear the Gucci jumpsuit or the Jean Paul Gaultier dress?

Who wore it better? Part Two

It’s time for another edition of “Who wore it better?”! Just like the last one, I’ll give you all my opinion. Then you guys can go ahead and do the same.

Match Up #1: Kim Kardashian v. Ciara in Carven

I think the dress is super cute, but I’m not so into the ankle boots. Both girls actually look really good in their identical outfits. However, Ciara appears to be taller and thinner.Every women’s dream!

Match Up #2: Kelly Bensimon v. Brooke Shields in Boden

It’s quite the bold coat, and I think it’s pretty obvious who takes the cake here. Can anyone please tell me why Kelly is wearing velvet sweatpants? Aside from that, the coat does not look at all fitted on her. Brooke’s outfit is well put together, from the scarf to the purse. The clear-cut winner here is Brooke!

Match Up #3: Alessandra Ambrosio v. Winona Ryder in Dolce & Gabbana

Wow, why Winona, why? She looks way too short in that dress. It’s just horrible. Even the way she’s standing doesn’t show any sign of confidence. Now, Alessandra on the other hand looks amazing. It’s a great length for her, and it’s not as full looking as it is on Winona. Plus, she’s actually posing like she enjoys wearing the dress. Without a doubt, Alessandra has won!

Match Up #4: Katharine McPhee v. Anne Hathaway in Marchesa

I think I might give this one to Anne. Her dress, though it’s the same as Katharine’s, seems cleaner and neater. I like the pumps better than the strapy shoes. Plus, I don’t really care for Katharine’s hair in this picture. As for the dress, Anne gives it more shape, so it looks better. Overall, Anne completed this look in every way!

Those are my opinions, so be sure to let me know what you all think!

Runway to Red Carpet

The stars looked AMAZING this past Sunday at the 83rd Annual Academy Awards. Some were rocking dresses straight of the 2011 runways. Mila Kunis, for instance, wore one of my favorites, Elie Saab’s Spring Couture.  Even Cate Blanchett dawned a  Givenchy Spring Couture dress.

It’s always fascinating to see a dress come to life on a celebrity on the red carpet. This video shows the a fashion lover how runway transforms to red carpet. We actually get to see a dress similar to one of Anne Hathaway’s hosting dresses on the runway in this video.

Enjoy!

Jason Wu-ed New York

[brightcove vid=786945406001&exp3=8558003001&surl=http://c.brightcove.com/services&pubid=1568114478&pk=AQ~~,AAAAAF13hy4~,k-0ZIL64dAd–E4Uss2ll130zYPVMSNK&lbu=http://www.style.com/video/fashion-shows-by-season/fall-2011-rtw/786715119001/jason-wu-fall-2011-readytowear/786945406001&w=404&h=436]

Jason Wu’s Fall 2011 RTW Collection was stunning. Lace and dark colors with a few pops of red, blue, and green made this collection one of my favorites. Jason Wu took garments that are normally casual, lay-around-the-house wear and jazzed them up with lace and embellishments. The sweater of the second look, for instance, is an example of this. It’s also an example of something I REALLY want in my closet!
